BACKSTREAM
SUNDAY 17th OCTOBER 2021
4-7PM
Live gigs are on their way back but this Sunday join us for BackStream - a special live stream event sharing work from the Sydney lockdown. It's a bit of an experiment with what's possible with all the technology we have all been working with over the last 18 months to see what might actually stick!
4:00-5:00 HIBERNATION - THE MONTHLY SHARE
5:00-5:30: Guests Niki Johnson and Josie Macken share ‘Unity’ and ‘Music in Passing’
5:30-6.10 Aviva Endean shares “Lost Things Reappear” Aviva Endean
6:10-6:55 Nightingale Set with works by Rosalind Page, Kezia Yap and Tristan Coelho
6:55-7:00 “Scrolling Music” Barbeler/Lifschitz
THE MONTHLY SHARE - 4PM
Hibernation Festival was set up by composer Damian Barbeler to give his students a forum to explore live streaming in a creative way during 2020 lockdown. "The Monthly Share" is a space for interesting people to chat about interesting creative things they've been up to. In the spirit of HiberNATION it will be fun, experimental and spontaneous. Hosted by familiar faces from the Hibernation community for the next 8 months, The Monthly Share will be a creative way to keep in touch and feel that lo-fi vibe in-between peak festival times!
NIKI JOHNSON around 5pm
Niki Johnson shares with us a new work she has written for extended vibraphone 'Unity' and then we check out the highlights from a project that Niki and Josie Macken worked on at the BackStage 'Now You Hear Her' Festival at World Square earlier in the year 'Music in Passing'.
AVIVA ENDEAN - around 5.30pm
Lost Things Reappear - Solo Electroacoustic set. With a new electro-acoustic set up, Aviva expands on her unique and exploratory instrumental practise, interweaving field recordings, lo-fi electronics and effects processing, to create waves of spectral and timbral exploration.
NIGHTINGALE SET around 6pm
Back in 2020 Jim turned 50 (crikey) and we also had our 20th wedding anniversary (double crikey)!! Seeing as travel and parties were out of the question we decided to commission some new music to play together. So we now have 3 lovely new flute and saxophone duo by our dear friends Kezia Yap, Tristan Coelho and Rosalind Page. Last week we set up our back verandah as our own personal recording studio and are thrilled to share these new pieces with you and have a chat with the composers!
With thanks to our funding partners
