Carcasses of Angels featuring Clocked Out (Vanessa Tomlinson & Erik Griswold),
Cat Hope and Kayleigh Pincott
Clocked Out and Cat Hope present Carcasses of Angels, a program of original works for voice, flutes, electric bass, percussion, and keyboards.
The performance comprises music created especially for this group including Our house is on fire – Hope’s powerful setting of Greta Thunberg’s iconic speech, Heavy Stop – Vanessa Tomlinson’s vibrant sonic investigation that uses listening as a navigational tool, and a brand new work by boundary pushing vocalist Kayleigh Pincott. Rounding out the program is Erik Griswold’s Carcasses of Angels, a collection of songs for voices, piano, bass and drums that reference atmospheric rock and post punk with minimalist tendencies. Featuring text from long time collaborator Craig Foltz, Carcasses is framed as a road trip in the desert of California, through which a couple grasps at themes both mundane and existential, with Pincott brilliantly giving voice to increasingly philosophical and haunting ruminations.

It often features aleatoric elements, drone, noise, glissandi and an ongoing fascination with low frequency sound. Her practice has been discussed in books such as Sonic Writing (Magnusson, 2019), Loading the Silence (Kouvaris, 2013), Women of Note (Appleby, 2012), Sounding Postmodernism (Bennett, 2011) as well as periodicals such as The Wire, Limelight and Neu Zeitschrift Fur Musik Shaft. Her works have been recorded for Australian, German and Austrian national radio, and her work has been awarded a range of prizes including the APRA|AMC Award for Excellence in Experimental Music in 2011 and 2014. Highlights as a flautist include working with French composer Eliane Radigue, and she has an international profile as a noise bassist having performed with Merzbow, Acid Mothers Temple and Lee Ranaldo. KAYLEIGH PINCOTT is an Australian vocalist, composer and improviser based in Brisbane. Having released her debut jazz album ‘Solace’ in 2016, Kayleigh Pincott is quickly establishing herself as an important voice in the Australian jazz/experimental music scene. Both solo and with her duo Downend, Kayleigh’s vocalisations move away from standard jazz repertoire and into the unknown. The duo has just released their debut album, ‘Find A Home’, recorded by Brisbane local, Caleb Colledge and released through the Made Now Music label. Inspired by artists such as Bjork, Bon Iver and Margaret Glaspy, her carefully constructed sound tiptoes the line between genres, utilising effect pedals, improvisation and looping. https://www.kayleighpincott.com/
